Oral Hygiene for Adults:
Oral Hygiene for Adults: Maintain Your Dental Health
Hygiene Education Program for Adults
What is it?
It is a program we designed to provide hygiene education and awareness to each individual’s dental hygiene needs.
When is it needed? Risks of not getting it done
This customized approach ensures patients are best prepared to manage their own personal dental hygiene. Patients receive information specific to their overall health and requirements to ensure that they know the best techniques appropriate for their unique dental health.
This is not a program to monitor patients, but rather to provide them with positive encouragement, resources, know-how and the tools they need for their best oral health.
How is it done?
The Hygiene Education Program begins with a review of your medical and dental information. This includes existing health conditions and medications, as well as anything in your personal life from age and diet to medical history, busy schedules or habits that may impact the overall care of your teeth.
Your dentist (or hygienist) will have you chew a plaque tablet to reveal any areas of plaque deposits on your teeth. This helps you to be aware of missed spots and areas of your mouth that may require greater attention when it comes to dental care at home.
Any issues of periodontal disease, gingivitis, abrasions, temporomandibular joint issues (TMJ), grinding or clenching, gum recession, staining and more. Your dentist will discuss the process of cavity development and protective habits that will benefit you such as, proper home care, fluoride and antibacterial rinses.
Any relationships to your medical conditions and periodontal disease will be discussed, along with specific techniques or tools to maximize the effectiveness of personal brushing and flossing. If nutrition is a factor, on-site counselling is also available.
