A comprehensive oral exam is the first step in allowing the dentist to properly assess and diagnose the entire scope of your oral health needs. Once we understand your unique situation, we work with you to determine a care and treatment plan that suits you.
Throughout the exam, we want to involve you, address your concerns and provide treatment options that are clear and easy to understand. We communicate with you constantly, so you're aware of what will happen, even before it occurs. We allow you to the make decisions about what we are doing and you always remain in control.
The dentist begins the examination by listening to you, observing and feeling the overall condition of your whole mouth, not just your teeth. This means that we look at all of the tissues, muscles, tongue and jaw. These are part of the four important areas that support your teeth overall and include; bones, ligaments, gums and cement (root). We use the latest in digital technology to take x-rays, if necessary, and intraoral and extraoral pictures of your mouth.
We carefully measure, or "probe," your gumline with a tiny ruler to see if there are any signs of recession, detachment or inflammation, and along with the digital pictures, assess for any bone loss. We do a thorough check for any indicators of gum disease and bacteria that can often go undetected. If there is any degree of gingivitis or periodontal disease, we can help to halt or treat it.
We will stop and take the time to explain everything you want to know. We value your involvement and that means you can be involved as much, or as little as you want.
Your treatment is unique and planned around your specific needs and wishes. We explain any treatment we may recommend, in as much detail as you want, as well as work with you to create an action plan that best meets your goals. We always provide a clear breakdown of costs and use visuals such as videos, computer animations and hands-on tools to explain and help you thoroughly understand the process and feel confident to co-design your dental treatment. If finances are a concern, we can offer a number of financial solutions that can help you.
We will verify that your treatment is covered by your dental benefits. As such, there is no need for you to ask your former dentist for records. If anything is needed from your records, we can make the transfer on your behalf.
We promise our patients full transparency when it comes to their treatment, as no treatment will ever be done without your consent. You will always be in control and this helps you feel more relaxed. There are a number of ways we can help make your visit a more pleasurable and relaxing experience. Many of our patients are known to have been able to catch up on some sleep during their visit, have a complimentary parafin wax hand treatment, use the massage chair or even watch Netflix. We offer use of headphones for entertainment, aromatherapy and up-to-date dental technologies including an anaesthetic warmer or the single tooth anaesthetic to reduce discomfort as much as possible.
