Your treatment plan begins with a no-cost consultation with Dr. Nohora Martinez. Dr. Martinez has a post- graduate diploma in orthodontics from Colombia and is an Invisalign Gold Level preferred provider. She is licensed as a general dentist in Ontario which permits her to perform orthodontic procedures.
Dr. Martinez main strengths are in the areas of cosmetic dentistry and smile design. The advantage of this is that Dr. Martinez can offer a wide array of available treatments. Rather than looking at orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry as two totally separate treatment options, she can combine the two into one complete full procedure.
Orthodontic treatment is not only designed to improve the appearance of your smile, but also improve the health of your teeth and gums. By seeking orthodontic treatment as an adult you can perhaps avoid severe tooth decay, gum and bone loss, irregular wear of the tooth enamel, and jaw pain.
Because adults tend to be more compliant in their orthodontic treatment, their results often turn out far greater than with a child or teen. By following the instructions provided by Dr. Martinez, you not only increase your chances for amazing results, but could also shorten your treatment time.
The number of adults choosing orthodontics is on the rise. Today one out of every four orthodontic patients is an adult. We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed for adults. Contrary to popular belief, wearing braces interferes little in an adult lifestyle. Patients can make business presentations, sing, play a musical instrument, dine out-and, of course, kiss!
Don’t ever feel it’s too late to enhance your smile. Schedule your free consultation today and let us help you start your journey to receiving a beautiful, straight smile!
Celebrities with Dental Braces
Celebrities are just like you and me; when it comes to orthodontic treatment and braces. Not even celebrities are perfect and many of these perfect Hollywood smiles, were not perfect at one point in their lives. There are cases where orthodontic treatment is necessary to align the teeth, before veneers or other restorative procedures are preformed.
Some people still feel a little conscious of wearing braces. Welcome to the new age! Today 1 of 4 orthodontic procedures involves adults.
Well, how about seeing celebrities with braces? Would that change your opinion about wearing braces? There are many celebrities who are not self-conscious in wearing braces. Instead they wear them loud and proud. This just goes to show that celebrities aren’t perfect and they weren’t born and raised with perfect teeth either. Tom Cruise got braces in 2002. He wore clear braces ceramic to help straighten and adjust midline. The mission wasn’t impossible for Tom Cruise’s orthodontist, when the famous actor underwent orthodontic treatment to correct the alignment of his teeth at the age of 39. Tom Cruise didn’t hesitate to flash his tin grin at the premiere of the movie ‘Space Station 3-D’ April 17, 2002 at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.
Nicholas Cage was photographed at the 55th Annual Writers Guild Awards March 8, 2003 in Beverly Hills, California wearing silver braces on his lower teeth. Why did he undergo orthodontic treatment at that specific time? He was quoted as saying “I’m in between movies right now and I want to get them”.
Delta – /Songwriter Delta Goodrem wore braces back in 2004, apparently to prevent her teeth from moving during her treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The beautiful singer was photographed at the Sony Music Entertainment Post-Grammy Party at Maple Drive Restaurant on February 8, 2004 in Beverly Hills, California with clear braces on her teeth.
Children / Teen Orthodontics
When should I bring my child for an Orthodontic Evaluation
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening for children by the age of 7. At that age the teeth and jaws are developed enough so that the orthodontist can see if there will be any serious bite problems in the future. Most of the time treatment is not necessary at age 7, but it gives the parents and dentist time to observe the child’s development and decide on the best mode of treatment. The earlier you start, the more time you have to plan ahead and prevent the formation of serious problems.
Why have orthodontic treatment at a young age
Research shows that serious orthodontic problems can be more easily corrected when the child’s skeleton is still growing and flexible. By correcting the skeletal problems at a younger age, we can prepare the mouth for the eventual eruption of the permanent teeth. If the permanent teeth have adequate space to erupt they will come in fairly straight. If the teeth erupt fairly straight their tendency to get crooked again after the braces come off is diminished significantly.
After the permanent teeth have erupted, usually from age 12 – 14, complete braces are placed for final alignment and detailing of the bite. Thus, the final stage of treatment is quicker and easier on the patient. This phase of treatment usually lasts from 12 – 18 month and is not started until all of the permanent teeth are erupted. Doing orthodontic treatments in two steps provides excellent results often allowing the doctor to avoid removal of permanent teeth and jaw surgery.
The treatment done when some of the baby teeth are still present is called Phase-1. The last part of treatment after all the permanent teeth have erupted is called Phase-2.
